In Memory of Jedidiah Murphy.
We are in the final hours to help save the life of a man on death row in Texas. His name is Jedidiah Murphy and I am urgently asking you to show up for him.
The title of today's episode comes from a poem Jedidiah wrote which you can find here, along with the other poem (Untitled) referenced in today's episode and a brief bio written by Jedidiah himself. A man who we now know has diagnosed Dissociative Identity Disorder is scheduled to be executed on both the 21st World Day Against the Death Penalty and World Mental Health Day.
While I was unable to speak with Jedidiah himself, I did speak with Cantor Mike Zoosman, the co-founder of L'chaim! A Jewish Anti-Death Penalty Group. As well as Abraham Bonowitz, the co-founder of Death Penalty Action, a nationwide organization that works to stop executions and abolish the death penalty. Both men shared how they went from supporters of state sanctioned executions via the death penalty to how they are now leaders in this work to abolish the use of death penalty across the country. And for today's episode both come together to raise awareness to the story of Jedidiah Murphy who will be executed in Texas on October 10th if he is not granted a stay of execution.
